Job Summary
The Interpreter Scheduler coordinates the day-to-day scheduling of interpreters across the 14 counties that DCARA serves, aligning with DCARA’s mission to empower Deaf* clients with communication access, supporting their role in their communities.
This position requires precision and a high level of attention to detail when scheduling interpreters and handling customer requests. The applicant must ensure all details, such as assignment timing, interpreter availability, and contract specifications are accurate and clear. Mistakes or oversights in scheduling can impact service delivery, so the ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional accuracy and thoroughness in their work.
Essential Job Functions
Scheduling
- Handle high-volume calls and emails, managing urgent requests and peak workloads efficiently.
- Schedule interpreters quickly and accurately, confirming service requests, interpreter statuses, and rates.
- Ensure all necessary details, materials, and updates are communicated to interpreters and Deaf consumers.
- Use the scheduling platform to maintain interpreter availability and keep customer information updated.
- Notify the Interpreting Services Coordinator of outdated contracts and other critical changes.
Body Positioning
- Operate computer and office equipment, sometimes repetitively.
- Maintain a stationary position 50% of the time.
- Access file cabinets and office supplies as needed.
Communication
- Efficient communication methods including all electronic formats (emails, zoom chats, etc.) and in person with all employees using the following:
- Various levels of written English
- American Sign Language
- Other signed communication methods Collaborate with the Interpreting Services Coordinator on incoming requests.
- Work with customers to confirm job details and ensure service quality.
- Maintain minimal interpreter relationships, matching interpreters based on skills.
- Communicate feedback about interpreters and provide follow-ups on requests.
Administrative Activities
- Enter and maintain information in scheduling databases and software.
- Monitor scheduling inbox and phone calls, forwarding phones after hours.
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- ASL proficiency, Deaf Culture understanding, and strong customer service skills.
- Ability to assess customer needs, provide active listening, and maintain attention to detail.
- Proficiency in clerical duties, database management, and computer applications.
Desired Education and Experience
- Experience and cultural competence working within the Deaf* community.
- Critical thinking, problem-solving, and technical equipment knowledge.
- Proficient coordination, negotiation, and service orientation skills.

*Work Location Requirement
This is a primarily in-person position. Remote work is only permitted when approved for specific situations and is not a standard benefit. Applicants must live within the Bay Area and be available to meet with clients on short notice. This is a client-facing role requiring regular on-site presence.
