Job Summary
This position is located in the Department of Employment Services (DOES), Office of Youth Programs (OYP). The DOES Office of Youth Programs is responsible for providing workforce development programs and services to District youth between the ages of 9-24. The mission of the DOES Office of Youth Programs is to prepare District youth for the workforce and to connect them to opportunities.
Duties And Responsibilities
Incumbent counsels applicants to identify needs and/or problems and to determine appropriate action required or referral to be made. Refers applicants to appropriate specialized services for testing. Screens applicant files against Job Bank listings and refers qualified applicants to jobs. Assess customers and identifies elgible program participants. Incumbent provides applicants with pertinent labor market information and job training opportunities that align with their need.
Incumbent conducts presentations and conducts orientations on eligibility and program services. Incumbent provides career advice, researches and provides customers with information as it relates to educational and school options, tuition, books, uniforms, and equipment. Collects, organizes and analyzes information about customers, including records, tests, interviews, and professional sources, to asses their interest, aptitudes, abilities and personality characteristics for vocational and career planning. Instructs various job preparation classes, including resume, employment application, and cover letter writing. Conducts individual and group sessions on job search readiness, techniques, labor market information, and vocational information. Attends staff and other meetings as required.
Qualifications And Education
Applicants must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the CS-9 grade level, or its non-District equivalent obtained in either the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience for this position include assisting with the planning, review, analysis, and identifying, addressing, and eliminating problematic areas of compliance.

Duration of Appointment: Career Service –13 Month Term
Collective Bargaining Unit: This position is covered under a collective bargaining agreement (AFGE Local 1000) and is subject to union dues through payroll deduction.
Promotion Potential: No known promotion potential
Position Designation: This position has been designated as protection sensitive therefore the incumbent of this position will be subject to enhanced suitability screening pursuant to Chapter 4 of DC Personnel Regulations, Suitability, and as such, incumbents of this position shall be subject to criminal background checks, background investigations, and mandatory drug and alcohol testing, as applicable.
