Job Summary
This position is located in the District of Columbia Government (District), Fire & Emergency Medical Services Department (FEMS), Office of the Medical Director. The mission of FEMS is to preserve life and promote health and safety through excellent pre-hospital treatment and transportation, fire prevention, fire suppression and rescue activities and homeland security awareness.
Duties And Responsibilities
Conducts daily inventory of controlled substances and other medications and ensures accurate counts, proper storage, and secure handling in accordance with regulatory requirements. Stocks, rotates, and distributes medications and supplies to multiple locations and maintains adequate levels to support uninterrupted operations and emergency response readiness. Drives department vehicles to and from firehouses for medication exchanges. Inspects medications for expiration, discrepancies, or damage and removes outdated or compromised items; coordinates their return or disposal in compliance with agency policy. Maintains organized storage and work areas and secures medications to meet operational and safety standards. Tracks missing doses of medications and provides data to supervisors to support investigations and inventory control. Organizes information from multiple sources and highlights critical points to meet agency needs or as directed. Maintains the departmental medication-tracking database and verifies the accuracy of internal and external data.
Qualifications And Education
Qualifying specialized experience may have been gained in hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacies, or in pharmaceutical firms or laboratories. Experience must have provided a basic knowledge of:
Incumbent must possess and maintain a Registered Nurse, Licensed Vocational Nurse, Paramedic, EMT 1-99, or
Pharmacy Tech certifications
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
Working Condition/Environment
Work is performed in a medical treatment setting and may also require travel outdoors in all-weather environments. There is potential for exposure to contagious diseases and medications that may cause sensitivity. Appropriate safety precautions and personal protective equipment are used to minimize risk. There Is also a safety risk inherent in delivering of drugs to treatment sites.
