Job Summary
This position is located in the DC Department of Corrections (DCDOC). This is a standard position designed for use in all District of Columbia departments, offices and agencies.
The incumbent provides legal support services which facilitate the work of the legal staff of the assigned office. The incumbent may also be responsible for the conduct of extensive and thorough legal research into and analyses of legislative history and precedent cases, decisions and opinions that may be applicable to particular legal matters.
Duties And Responsibilities
Drafts opinions and orders to be issued by the Administrative Law Judge or other legal authority which requires the review, analysis and organization of facts and evidence; the analysis of legal issues, the application of law to fact; fact finding; the drawing of legal conclusions and the rendition of clear, effective and precise written presentations. Performs legal research, including search of statutes, regulations, legislative history, case law and other legal authorities on points of law.
Examines and evaluates information in case files against agency jurisdictional requirements. Investigates, compiles and evaluates factual information in conjunction with varying data, in order to prepare case documents. Reviews contents of reports and procedural or policy papers to identify potential problems and to assure consistency with agency policy. Identifies, defines and analyzes operational problems and poses options and alternatives to existing procedures.
Qualifications And Education
Specialized Experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade in the normal line of progression.

The majority of the work is performed in an office which is adequately heated, lighted and ventilated.

Position Designation: This position is designated as a Security Sensitive position and is subject to mandatory pre-employment and periodic Criminal Background and Traffic Records Checks (as applicable). This position is also subject to mandatory subject to mandatory pre-employment and random Drug and Alcohol Testing. In this position you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.
A TB Test is required prior to entry on duty.
Residency Requirement: Applicants claiming "Residency Preference" will be required to maintain residency in the District of Columbia for a minimum of seven (7) years. Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of employment.
