Job Summary
Operates different motor vehicles, primarily a 36-passenger bus and/or a 16-passenger van within the Hospital campus or the metropolitan area. Assists elderly and infirm individuals-in-care entering or leaving bus. Occasionally other vehicles such as sedans, buses, etc. operate to transport individuals-in-care and employees to a variety of destinations in the metropolitan area. Responsible for maintaining vehicles in a clean and sanitary condition. Messenger duties include transporting or picking up documents. Prepare trip tickets to show purpose of trip, starting point and destination.
Qualifications
Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision
Licensures, Certifications And Other Requirements
A valid State Motor Vehicle Driver’s License and Commercial Driver’s License Class B with Passenger Endorsement required.
Minimum Education Requirement
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Work Experience
Experience operating buses, trucks, sedans and vans safely
Work Environment
Work is performed outside with exposure to bad weather conditions.

Position Designation: This position is deemed as “Safety Sensitive” pursuant to Section 410 of Chapter 4 of the D.C. Personnel Regulations, in addition to the general suitability screening, individuals applying for or occupying safety sensitive positions are subject to the following checks and tests:
A person applying for a position in the Career Service, Educational Service, Management Supervisory Service, a line attorney position in the Legal Service (series 905), or an attorney position in the Excepted Service (series 905) who is a bona fide District resident AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION for the position may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present proof of bona fide District residency and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment.
