Job Summary
This position is located in the Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection (DLCP), Office of the Director. DLCP protects the health, safety, economic interests, and quality of life of residents, businesses, and visitors in the District of Columbia by ensuring code compliance and regulating business. DLCP regulates business activities in the District of Columbia by issuing business and professional licenses, registering corporations, inspecting weighing and measuring devices used for monetary profits, and issuing special events permits. The agency protects the health, safety, economic interests, and quality of life of residents, businesses, and visitors by ensuring code compliance and regulating business activities.
Duties And Responsibilities
Participates in the development of department strategic plans for legislation; reviews, drafts and facilitates the enactment of proposed agency legislation and rulemakings; monitors and tracks legislation and rulemaking; and manages non-legal external communications. Reviews new and amendatory legislation for its applicability to DLCP operations. Reviews current laws and regulations governing the agency's licensing, permitting, inspections, and enforcement responsibilities for the purpose of recommending proposed legislative and regulatory changes, as appropriate.
Completes special projects and assignments to facilitate important policy decisions, as well as policy development, formulation, and implementation. Assures research, compilation, and preparation of all information, materials, documents, and reports for all projects and assignments. Coordinates or assists in coordinating pertinent matters and the flow of information documents between DLCP, Federal, District agencies/departments, and the City Council as appropriate, concerning specific regulatory or legislative assignments.
Qualifications And Education
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the individual with the knowledge, skill and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, the incumbent must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.
