Job Summary
This position is located in the Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (ONSE) which is responsible for the coordination of violence prevention strategy and programs in the District of Columbia with a focus on utilizing public health approaches to respond to and prevent violence. The Office seeks to reduce violence by identifying, recruiting, and engaging individuals determined to be at high risk of participating in, or being a victim of, violent crime into positive behavioral reinforcement activities.
This position functions as a Grants Management Specialist responsible for administering grants/local funding from award to close out, applying appropriate management controls, and keeping abreast of changes in policies, procedures, or requirements.
Duties And Responsibilities
The Grant Management Specialist manages specific grants/local funds, as assigned, that support violence prevention efforts. The incumbent manages the awarding and administering of sub-grants or contracts including the review and evaluation of grant recipients' plans and projects to ensure alignment with the goals and priorities of the Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement, and in compliance with District and Federal requirements. Manages grants processes to ensure compliance with District regulations and best practices; implementation of efficient business processes; and achievement of best-in-class customer service. Actively updates grants manual in coordination with legal team and other District organizations.
The incumbent prepares responses to requests from the Mayor, District Government officials, or the Council of the District of Columbia and researches and prepares responses to requests for information relating to ONSE grants. The incumbent participates in the planning, development, and implementation of Office policies, goals, objectives and priorities for grant management. Prepares reports, correspondence, papers, and other technical documents needed to effectively administer grants. Establishes and maintains records of all grant-related transactions. Keeps abreast of current practices and trends of grants management and identifies areas for improvement and enhancements in grants management.
Qualifications And Education
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled. To be creditable, applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the line of progression.

The work is performed in an office setting. The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.

Tour of Duty: 8:30 am - 5:00 pm; (Hours of work will vary as required by the needs of the program to include split days off and fluctuating tour of duty, to include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.)
