Essential Functions
- Day-to-day involvement in MEP design production for healthcare projects.
- Collaborate effectively with and coordinate design efforts among internal teams, external consultants, and clients.
- Understand and contribute to the management of project budget, scope, and scheduling.
- Active participation in the design and construction administration (CA) phases of projects.
- Construction Administration duties include attending project meetings, reviewing shop drawings/submittals, and providing timely responses to RFIs.
- Serve as the primary technical contact for owners, clients, and other consultants, demonstrating excellent communication skills to articulate design decisions.
- Review and seal drawings prepared by self and/or other drawings prepared under own direct supervision.
- Act as the primary designer on any type of project. Shall include all phases of a project from kick-off to completion of construction.
- Provide schematic design information to Project Manager or senior-level design staff such as preliminary calculations, design distribution, equipment sizing, and providing cut sheets of all equipment proposed.
- Prepare preliminary task lists.
- Produce sketches and system schematics for complicated design tasks.
- Make calculations using engineering formulas and software for design.
- Research and select equipment based on experience and fill out schedules.
- Prepare drawings and sketches to incorporate into final drawings.
- Research design options and document findings.
- Coordinate all design aspects with other disciplines.
- Research code issues and asks code officials questions.
- Assure that drawings and designs are in accordance with company production and design standards.
- Keep project manager informed of workload and any changes in project scope or additional services.
- Attend design and construction meetings and produce site observation reports when required.
- Edit specifications.
- Incorporate design concepts from schematic design into design development and work with project team to produce construction documents.
- Organize and maintain project files. Maintain neat and organized work area, which allows efficient access to information required by other team members.
- Solve engineering problems using experience, judgment and education but is expected to ask for assistance when needed.
- Prepare engineering opinion of probable cost for systems and review contractor cost estimates.
- Perform and produce building assessment study reports.
- Perform as a Technical / Training Mentor to designers.
- Assist Practice Area Leader and Design Director with tasks as requested.
- Continue learning process by attending in-house seminars and continuing education opportunities outside of office.
- Perform additional assignments as requested/needed.
- At least 7 years of progressive industry experience with at least 3-4 years focused on healthcare facility design (e.g., hospitals, clinics, surgical centers).
