Start Your Career in Steel Modeling & Detailing with DBM Vircon

DBM Vircon is currently seeking Cadet Construction Modelers to join our Tempe office. This is a great opportunity for recent graduates and early-career candidates looking to build a long-term career in steel modeling and detailing.

As part of our Cadet Development Program, you’ll receive hands-on training, mentorship from experienced professionals, and the opportunity to contribute to real project work from early in your career.

Under the guidance of experienced team members, the Cadet Construction Modeler supports the delivery of drafting and modeling services for DBM Vircon and its clients. This is an entry-level role designed to help you build technical skills, gain project experience, and develop a strong foundation in the structural steel industry.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the preparation of engineering drawings and project documentation
• Support the creation of detail drawings and 3D steel models
• Perform drafting and modeling tasks in line with project requirements, deadlines, and budgets
• Learn and apply industry standards, codes, and drafting practices
• Communicate effectively with internal team members to gather information needed to complete project tasks
• Identify and report changes to project scope when required
• Help ensure deliverables meet DBM Vircon, client, and applicable regulatory standards
• Maintain timesheets and job/project records in company systems
• Ask questions, raise issues early, and seek support as part of the learning process

What We’re Looking For

• Recent graduate or current student nearing completion of a relevant program, such as:
• Drafting and Design Technology
• Civil / Structural Drafting
• Mechanical Drafting
• Engineering Technology
• Or another related drafting / modeling discipline
• Strong interest in structural steel, drafting, and 3D modeling
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to follow established standards
• Eagerness to learn and grow in a technical, project-based environment
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Strong time management and organizational skills

Software & Technical Skills

• Working knowledge of CAD software is required
• Tekla Structures experience a strong asset
• AutoCAD experience is required
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
