Position: Project Accountant
Position Description:
DBI Projects is seeking a Project Accountant to join the growing professional services firm. This position provides the opportunity for a candidate to develop the requisite skills and expertise to manage capital project budgets. DBI Projects values a candidate who can work hard, is highly motivated, and is not afraid to take on assignments and endeavors while implementing a results-driven attitude. A desire to be heavily involved with all aspects of a project but specifically managing budgeting, invoicing, costs, and contingencies is preferred. Prior experience in construction or architectural services in accounting is strongly preferred.
Required Experience & Skill:
The ideal candidate should have 2-5 years of experience in accounting, architecture, construction management, and/or related practices working on capital projects. The Project Accountant role is tailored to the needs of each project and its phase. This role supports the project lead and senior leadership with budget management, project reporting, client interaction, project team assistance, contractor and schedule assistance, and other project-related activities.
Key capabilities include:
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel)
- Knowledge of Quickbooks
- Knowledge of Adobe Create Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop)
- Construction scheduling programs such as MS Projects
- Knowledge of project accounting software such as PMWeb
What You’ll Do:
- In consultation with Director of Project Accounting and the project management team, manage all aspects of project budgets for large capital projects including construction costs, FF&E, soft costs, contingencies, etc.
- Independently review all invoices against project realities and agreements including (but not limited to) work in-place, general compliance, billed to date, change orders, reimbursables, insurance, lien waivers, etc.
- Interact with contractors, suppliers, consultants and vendors regarding all aspects of A/P, A/R, invoicing, contract compliance, etc.
- Independently prepare detailed and complete monthly budget reports using excel format as dictated by the client.
- Independently prepare monthly bank requisitions and reconciliations.
- Manage contracts, change orders, and contingency logs on a daily basis.
- Present comprehensive budget reports to internal team and client teams.
- Execute all work with the highest expectations of quality, accuracy, timeliness and care across multiple projects.
- Manage reporting and compliance for project funding grants and other funding sources
- Prepare clear and actionable emails, updates, and follow ups.
- Understands the differences between different types of financing. Review funding opportunities like grants and organize submission requirements.

Location: This position is in our New York City office, 5 days a week in-person.

The salary range for this full-time role is $70-$85K per year. Ranges are determined by role and level depending on candidate’s experience and qualifications and represent a good faith effort to provide a fair and equitable salary.
