We serve students in grades K-12 in the Dayton Public School area; academic proficiency is not considered during the admissions process. Admission is first come, first served.

Job Summary: The Visual Arts Teacher establishes a warm, welcoming, artistic environment within the school, and an art education program that focuses on the development of student artistic skills and attitudes. This

teacher provides instruction in the visual arts, guides and nurtures students’ creative exploration of a variety of

techniques and media consistent with the school's art curriculum, and implements the school-wide standards and practices of student behavior in the art studio and school. The art teacher contributes to curriculum development, participates/takes leadership in school events, and counsels and collaborates with colleagues across curriculum and grade levels. Teachers/advisors report to the Campus Principal.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Ohio Visual Art (multi-age) license; Prior relevant experience preferred;
  • Effective interpersonal skills with children and adults;
  • A broad range of interests and experience with a passion for learning;
  • Possess knowledge of art and design concepts, a variety of media and materials, and broad range of art history;
  • Implement a dynamic and rigorous approach to art and design education;
  • Promote student artists’ self-expression and exploration while deepening their knowledge and understanding of art, design and art history
  • Knowledge of pedagogical theories, perspectives, and developments;
  • Sound classroom management skills;
  • Ability to improvise and work through uncertainties;
  • Experience with technology-integration in the teaching and learning process;
  • Effectiveness in an interdisciplinary, teamed environment;
  • Skills in graphic technology preferred;
  • Collegiality and an eagerness to participate in student-centered school activities are essential
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions;
  • Entrepreneurial spirit;
  • Leadership skills;
  • Excellent problem-solving skills

Duties/Essential Functions:

  • Serve as positive role model for students;
  • Demonstrate a positive, supportive, enthusiastic, and encouraging attitude with all students;
  • Establishes an artistic environment within the school, and a school art program;
  • Provides art instruction to develop artistic concepts and skills for students K-4 and/or 5-8;
  • Introduces students to, and guides the development of, a variety of media and graphic arts forms;
  • Clearly communicates instructional objectives and supports the school’s the teaching and learning goals;
  • Provides a warm and accepting climate in the art classroom, with focus on the development of various artistic skills and attitudes

Terms of Employment:

  • 195 days;
  • Salary to be determined based on experience and education level;
  • All staff members are issued one-year contracts

Working Environment:

Workplace locations include:

  • School, activity center, outdoor play areas;
  • Retreat/field sites; and
  • Other environments as deemed necessary/appropriate

Physical demands:

  • While performing the duties of his/her job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and/or hear
  • The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception

Additional Working Conditions:

  • The noise level in this work environment is quiet to loud depending on the activity and location
  • Working conditions for this job include (1) possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue; and (2) occasional operation of a motor vehicle to transport students
