Job Details
This position in an entry level position as a cytogenetics technologist. Under the day to day management of the cytogenetics technologist II (CG II), the cytogenetics technologist I (CG I) performs procedural and analytical steps related to chromosome analysis, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and microarray studies. Is familiar with current ISCN guidelines to describe karyotypes. Correctly analyzes neoplastic and non-neoplastic specimens collected from neonates, children, adolescents, and adults. Applies the principles, theories, and techniques of cytogenetics to produce accurate and reliable results that aid the physician in diagnosis and treatment. Ensures sample suitability and stability. Maintains and ensures functionality, including stocking of reagents and running necessary controls and calibration of laboratory instruments/equipment. Trains new staff and students. Maintains lab in constant inspection ready state. Follows and enforces safety and regulatory compliance. Explores new methodologies and implements new tests as appropriate. Processes and sends out genetic testing not performed in-house.

- A bachelor’s degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or in medical technology is required for this position.
- Applicant will be expected to take the Technologist in Cytogenetics, CG(ASCP) certification exam within one year of hire
