Day Kimball Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our Neurology Department ! This per diem position requires a minimum commitment of at least two 8-hour shifts (16 hours total) per month . - Assists with direct patient care procedures and related tasks; checks in patients, assists in obtaining patient histories, takes vital signs, prepares charts, and assists with medical examinations.
- Accurately transcribes physicians' orders, completes all necessary forms, requisitions, and communications required to implement orders.
- Schedules and monitors patient appointments; may coordinate routine office activities and administrative functions in support of unit activities.
- Performs routine specialized procedures, which could include sterile dressing changes under established protocols.
- Maintains stocks of medicines and medical supplies as necessary.
- Assists with orientation of other clerical personnel to the department.
- Educates and advises patients on specified medical issues within established parameters.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Current AHA Healthcare Provider CPR certification or equivalent within 3 months of hire required.
- Successful completion of CMA or CNA Program preferred.
- Completion of a Medical Terminology course preferred.
- Prior computer experience required.
- One to three years experience in clinical position preferred.
- One to three years experience as a nursing or medical assistant or in a related field preferred.
- Previous experience in a hospital environment preferred.
- Ability to plan, organize, direct and control the flow of communication and tasks within the job duties and responsibilities with minimal supervision and with time limitations.
- Ability to perform detailed assignments, work accurately, follow directions and assess priorities.
- Good physical and mental health, able to assist with heavy lifting and capable of working under pressure.
- Ability to demonstrate sincere concern in caring for patients who are ill, and willing to be accountable for maintaining Physician Services of Northeast Connecticut standards on confidentiality.
- Ability to learn procedures and techniques involved in administrating basic patient care.
- Possess good communication skills and ability to deal with patients, their families and visitors with patience and tact.
