- Although the name of the position is Constant Attendant (CA), the position has two distinct types of observation.
- As a CA, the observation of patients is less strict and could mean observing more than one patient.
- As a 1:1, this type of observation is strict and requires remaining with the patient at all times at an arm’s length. Patients on 1:1 observation are on suicide precautions or restrained for behavioral management.
- The expectation is to work 4 (four) shifts per month.
- Remain alert and in visual contact with the patient at all times.
- Assist the patient in daily activities as directed by the nurse.
- Assist the nurse in restraining and removing restraints.
- Maintain direct 1:1 constant observation.
- Keep patient within an arm’s length at all times, even when patient is bathing and toileting.
- Remain alert and in visual contact with the patient at all times.

- High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
- Prior experience preferred, but not required.
- Meets the physical demands of position.
- Demonstrates ability to cope with and function under stress.
