SUMMARY: The Homeless Prevention Intake Specialist is responsible for working with families requesting services through our Homeless Prevention Program who are at-risk of becoming homeless.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Conducts intake interviews and assessments over phone or in-person and assesses appropriateness of requests for service.
- Completes Intake paperwork at the time of program enrollment.
- Works county-wide to identify, engage and screen families at imminent risk of homelessness.
- Assesses and evaluates need for immediate crisis intervention.
- Refers cases to other agencies as appropriate.
- Assists families in finding alternative resources in the community if the program is at capacity or if they do not meet program eligibility criteria.
- Responsible for establishing and maintaining collaborative partnerships with social service providers.
- Educates community providers on program criteria.
- Attends community meetings and resource fairs for outreach and network with referral sources.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, psychology, or other related fields from an accredited institution required.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in human services.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Knowledge of issues surrounding homelessness/community services; advocacy and mediation skills.
- Demonstrated sensitivity and ability in working with the diversity of the agency’s population, including but not limited to, clients, staff, community partners, and board of directors.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Maintain confidentiality of client information.
- Enter client information into database.
- Ability to walk, stand, climb stairs, kneel, bend, reach, and manipulate objects; move materials up to 5 pounds on a regular basis; infrequently require moving materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Some local travel required. Must have a reliable car, active auto insurance, and valid Florida driver’s license.
- Successfully complete a Level 2 criminal background check, motor vehicle records check, and drug screening.
