The Employee Training Specialist is responsible for the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the College’s employee onboarding, training, professional development, and performance evaluation. This role leads new-hire orientation and onboarding; assesses organizational training needs in partnership with college leadership and Human Resources; and develops, delivers, and evaluates training and professional development initiatives that support employee effectiveness, engagement, and compliance. The Specialist applies adult learning principles and instructional design best practices to create high-quality learning experiences, maintains the learning management system (LMS) and training compliance data, and oversees the College performance evaluation and employee goal-setting processes. In collaboration with internal partners and subject matter experts, the position supports leadership and supervisory development, culture and engagement efforts, and accreditation requirements by maintaining a comprehensive, data-driven professional development plan aligned with institutional priorities and best practices.
Job Focus
- Responsible for the design and delivery of new hire orientation and employee onboarding process.
- Provide support to end-users of learning management system (LMS) and maintains LMS training content and completion data.
- Develop and implement the College’s written Plan for Professional Development to satisfy accreditation requirements.
- Perform training and development needs assessment with college leadership and Human Resources.
- Recommend priorities, timelines, and delivery formats for the implementation of training and professional development initiatives.
- Apply adult learning concepts to design and develop training and development materials that are clear and professional. Coordinates with subject matter experts as necessary to develop training content.
- Develop and deliver supervisor and leadership training initiatives.
- Coordinate or support professional development events as needed.
- Partner with the Educational Excellence department as needed to support faculty development initiatives.
- Support needs for specific operational training as necessary.
- Support Culture Committee and employee engagement or culture-related initiatives.
- Oversee the College’s performance evaluation system and employee goals along with forms, and tools.
- Monitors compliance of employee evaluation and goals processes.
- Uses various software to produce training content.
- Identifies and recommends external training resources that may be used to enhance training initiatives.
- Develops and deploys evaluation methods that effectively measure learning outcomes.
- Uses learning management software and/or other methods to capture and track data related to employee training compliance.
- Supports personalized professional development plans as needed.
- Research and recommend updates to college leadership about revisions to current professional development and training opportunities.
- Research best practices in human resources as related to professional development and training.
- Maintain current knowledge and skill in education technology, instructional design, and learning theory.
- Support other Human Resource department staff with employee benefit and policy training initiatives and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Instructional Design, Organizational Development, Education, Industrial-Organizational Psychology, or a related field.
- Minimum of two years of experience in employee training and development, instructional design, organizational learning, or a closely related area.
- Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and delivering technology-enhanced learning, including use of an LMS for course delivery, tracking completion, and reporting training data.
- Experience conducting training needs assessments, developing professional development initiatives, and coordinating training programs with multiple stakeholders.
- Proficiency in written and verbal communication, including the ability to develop clear, professional training materials and communicate effectively with employees at all organizational levels.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and complex assignments accurately and independently.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships and provide a high level of internal customer service.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives in support of the College’s mission and strategic goals.
- Familiarity with higher education, or public sector environments.
