Summary
Under the general supervision of the Shop Coordinator, the Heavy and Light-Duty Vehicle Technician maintains and repairs district vehicles, including school buses, light, medium and heavy duty trucks, cars and mobile equipment. Ensures that vehicles are maintained according to highest standards of safety and that all applicable safety law and regulation requirements are fully met.

Classified job is announced to all qualified personnel. 8 hours per day/257 days per year/Lane 12 $26.30 per hour (2025-2026 Support Salary Table) (Promotions result in a 5% minimum increase) GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the general supervision of the Shop Coordinator, the Heavy and Light-Duty Vehicle Technician maintains and repairs district vehicles, including school buses, light, medium and heavy duty trucks, cars and mobile equipment. Ensures that vehicles are maintained according to highest standards of safety and that all applicable safety law and regulation requirements are fully met. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS * High School diploma or equivalent. * Four (4) years of experience related to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities or an equivalent combination of education and experience. * The following must be obtained within 1st year of employment: Commercial Drivers License (Class A with passenger endorsement), Utah State Inspection License, Davis County County I/M Technician Certification required yearly, Air Conditioning Certification. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES * Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations * Knowledge of on-board computerized diagnostics * Knowledge of computerized gasoline and diesel engine operation and repair * Knowledge of fuel systems, ignition systems, drive train and safety systems * Ability to use diagnostic engine analyzer and charging system analyzer * Ability to use all types of mechanics tools * Knowledge of body repair and painting * Knowledge of state inspection and emissions laws required after employment. * Ability to use or repair small, medium and heavy equipment and machinery. * Ability to manage inventory and property. * Ability to communicate professionally with a wide array of customers, including but not limited to drivers, public safety personnel, principals, vendors, etc.
