Under the direction of the Director of Secondary Education and Leadership, serves as the educational leader and chief executive of the school as it relates to the instructional program, operation of the school plant, staff, students, and the community.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

General:

1. Administers district policies, programs and regulations of the school system as they apply to the school.

2. Recognizes that statutory law, Board policies and instructions from the Superintendent constitute the administrative authority in the school.

3. Keeps superiors fully advised as to the conditions and needs of the school through established channels.

4. Coordinates the development and implementation of a broad base curricular program.

Certificated and Classified Personnel:

1. Assigns activities and supervisory duties to staff members.

2. Makes available for the Superintendent a statement or schedule of the duties assigned to each staff member together with a complete work program of the school.

3. Assigns teachers to classes.

4. Supervises the teachers assigned to the school.

5. Carries the responsibility for the certificated evaluation process in the school in accordance with Board Policy and Master Contract.

6. Supervises or designates the supervision of work performed by the classified personnel in the school. Assures that the classified evaluation process is observed.

7. Promotes high morale and a professional working relationship among the staff members.

8. Assists the Superintendent's office in the effort to improve the efficiency of each member of the staff in the school in accordance with established plans worked out by that office.

9. Promotes the professional progress of the teachers through such activities as teachers' meetings, individual conferences and inservice training and other appropriate activities.

10. Requires classroom teachers to keep a program of daily work in such a manner that a substitute teacher may continue the work and secures a substitute teacher in the absence of a regular teacher.

11. Reports all injuries incurred by staff members while on duty to the Superintendent.

12. Assures appropriate administration of Master Contract provisions covering certificated and classified personnel.

Pupil Personnel:

1. Maintains or directs that an accurate set of class registers be kept for attendance and reports the monthly summary of same to the Superintendent's office.

2. Prepares or supervises the preparation of such other reports as are required by law or may be deemed necessary by the Superintendent or the Board.

3. Enforces reasonable precautions to safeguard the health and general well-being of the staff and of the pupils within the school, and provides definite plans by which the school staff may be able to provide for the safety and care of the pupils in case of fire, national disaster, storm or other sudden danger to the school plan, and sees that the pupils are adequately trained to make such plans effective at any time.

4. Reports all injuries incurred by pupils and is responsible for transmitting the proper forms.

5. Assures admittance of pupils to the school in accordance with proper transfer procedures.

6. Makes a special effort to cooperate with the parents of the pupils in the school and sees that parents are notified as soon as possible when pupils are failing in educational achievement or school conduct.

7. Permits interviews with pupils by persons outside the school system with parents, legal guardians or officers of the law only.

Educational Services:

1. Reports to the Director of Secondary Education and Leadership any grievances or problems for which the principal is unable to find a solution or which are beyond immediate control.

2. Refers to the Director of Secondary Education and Leadership any conflict over authority within the school. Until such conflict is resolved my mediation, the authority of the principal shall prevail.

3. Serves on all committees assigned by the Associate Superintendent of Instructional Services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Credential: Appropriate California Administrative or Supervision Credential.
2. Education: Master's degree required, plus evidence of recent growth.
3. Experience: Teaching and administrative experience at the appropriate school level; training and experience in teh supervision of certificated and classified personnel; training and experience in the development of curriculum.
