Duties
- Review and assign appropriate DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes, and ICD (International Classification of Diseases) codes such as ICD-9 and ICD-10 to medical records to ensure precise billing.
- Prepare and submit accurate medical claims using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems, adhering to insurance guidelines and regulations.
- Verify patient insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility to facilitate smooth billing processes.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims by communicating with insurance companies and patients to resolve discrepancies or issues.
- Manage medical collections by contacting patients regarding outstanding balances, setting up payment plans, and maintaining detailed records of collection efforts.
- Maintain comprehensive and organized medical records, ensuring all documentation complies with legal standards and privacy regulations.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation or coding queries that impact billing accuracy.
Experience
- Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or collections within a healthcare setting is required.
- Strong knowledge of DRG classifications, CPT coding procedures, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems, and medical terminology is essential.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems used for documentation and billing processes.
- Hands-on experience handling medical records management and understanding of insurance claim submission procedures.
- Excellent communication skills for liaising with insurance companies, patients, and healthcare providers.
- Ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately and apply appropriate coding standards.
