A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN HVAC SERVICE MANAGER
As an HVAC Service Manager, you direct the daily operations of our heating and cooling service department under the direction of upper management. You do this by successfully scheduling, directing, and providing the needed technical support for our HVAC technicians to meet service demands and exceed customers' expectations. By communicating efficiently with dispatch and other management, you meet departmental goals and objectives.
From recruiting to training, you inspire all HVAC technicians to take pride in their work. In an effort to ensure quality, you supervise the technicians as they complete equipment repairs, installations, and start-ups. As needed, you assist with performance appraisals, help with reviews, and encourage your team to set goals to meet company requirements. Always approachable and helpful, you review your team's work and make recommendations for improvement. You cultivate an open, honest, team-oriented, healthy, and vital work culture that everyone enjoys. This is done by maintaining a regular training program, organizing weekly meetings, and informing our team so they are all in the know.
Among other duties, you review work orders, invoices, and time reports for accuracy to ensure timely cash flow and maintain minimal account receivables. You also oversee, maintain, and monitor any assigned service vehicles making sure that they are operating properly. Your work gives you great satisfaction by helping to ensure quality, efficiency, profitability, employee morale, and client satisfaction!
QUALIFICATIONS FOR AN HVAC SERVICE MANAGER
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 10 years of HVAC service experience
- 2 years of management experience
- EPA certification
- Experience successfully supervising or managing technicians
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
- Knowledge and understanding of local codes, heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems
- Able to read, interpret, utilize, and train on manuals, schematics, and control circuits
- Able and willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Excellent leadership, communication, and conflict management skills
- Good computer skills including Microsoft Office and other general software
