Job Summary
Davidsons, quality clothing for men since 1910, in Roanoke, VA needs an experienced tailor. Must be able to complete alterations on men's suits, pants, and jackets. We expect this tailor to assist staff with difficult fitting situations with clients.
Duties
- Measure clients accurately to determine the required alterations
- Perform clothing alterations including hemming, taking in or letting out seams, and resizing garments
- Use sewing machines, hand sewing techniques, and pressing machines to assemble and finish garments with meticulous attention to detail
- Operate pressing machines safely to ensure crisp finishes on all clothing items
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace and ensure all tools such as sewing machines and pressing equipment are properly maintained
- Deliver excellent customer service by understanding client needs, offering style suggestions, and ensuring satisfaction with each tailored piece
Experience
- Proven experience in fashion retail or tailoring environment with a focus on clothing alterations or custom apparel production
- Skilled in garment sewing, stitching techniques, hand sewing, and sewing machine operation
- Knowledge of fabric materials including different textiles used in men's wear
- Familiarity with pressing machines and press operation for garment finishing
- Experience working with various garment types such as suits, trousers, shirts
- Strong understanding of garment construction principles including pattern reading and fitting adjustments
