Davidson Day School is a diverse independent school that cultivates academic excellence through collaboration, creativity, and character development. Each student is offered an active, challenging learning environment through our broad array of programs. We have approximately 525 students from 2-year-old through 12 grade and are located in Davidson, North Carolina.
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable tutor with expertise in middle school and high school English, as well as a strong background in executive skills, particularly in note-taking and study skills. Teaching goals will be to enhance students’ reading, writing, and comprehension abilities while equipping them with essential organizational strategies. Tutoring is an hourly position, and the schedule of sessions is based on the needs of the students and their class schedules. Typically, tutoring sessions occur during the school day. This position will report directly to the Director of Learning Services.
Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one tutoring to students of Davidson Day School through the Learning and Enrichment Center during the school day or before/after school hours based on demand.
- Assist students in improving academic achievement by meeting with them on a regular basis to clarify learning weaknesses and strengthen executive functioning skills.
- Assist students with reviewing class material, discussing text, predicting test questions, brainstorming ideas for papers, or other solutions as needed.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to further student improvement.
- Communicate with parents regarding student progress.
- Meet guidelines regarding record keeping duties.
- Attend and contribute to faculty and departmental meetings as necessary.
- Perform all other duties appropriate to employment as determined by the Head of School.
- Comply with all rules and regulations established as school policy.
Qualifications:
- Prior teaching or tutoring experience is preferred but not required.
- Passion for working with students.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for interacting with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability and desire to work collaboratively.
- Organized and reliable.
