General Description:
The WIC Registered Nurse (RN) provides prenatal and pediatric health education, breastfeeding support, and nutritional counseling, often acting as a Competent Professional Authority (CPA) certify participant eligibility.
Work Experience Requirements:
- Determine eligibility for the WIC program by evaluating nutritional risk, anthropometric measurements, and hemoglobin levels.
- Develop care plans, provide nutrition education, and counsel on prenatal, postpartum, and infant health.
- Offer specialized support and education to mothers.
- Provide individualized nutrition counseling to families, focusing on breastfeeding promotion, infant care, and health eating habits.
- Administer immunizations, perform blood draws, and screen for health risks.
- Provide referrals to community resources, including medical providers and food assistance programs.
- Maintain accurate records in the Louisiana state electronic health record systems.
- Perform other duties as required.
Education/Experience Requirements: (The minimum qualifications can be with any combination of education and/or experience.)
- Graduated from an accredited nursing program.
- Experience in community/public health nursing is preferred.
- Knowledge of maternal and child health, as well as nutritional requirements.
- Compassionate and patient-centered approach.
- Excellent verbal and communication skills.
- Must have at least two years' experience as a Registered Nurse.
Licensure/Certifications:
- BLS (American Heart Association) required
- Valid Registered Nurse license in the State of Louisiana or multi-state license from a Nursing Licensure Compact state.
