What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Medical Assistant position at David Raines Community Health Center?
The SBHC Certified Medical Assistant works as part of the medical team performing those clinical and clerical duties necessary to prepare patients for a visit. Also prepares medical charts and gathers patient information. The CMA should maintain smooth patient flow throughout the Health Center.
Working Experience Requirements:
- Ensures patient confidentiality and provides patients with needed information.
- Collect patient medical histories and personal information.
- Manage patient medical records and update in EHR.
- Manage medical supply inventory.
- Prepare examination rooms for patient visits.
- Ensure rooms are adequately stocked with necessary supplies.
- Clean medical instruments and examinations rooms.
- Take and record vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, weight).
- Assist provider with examinations and procedures.
- Administer medications and injections as directed
- Establishes that each patient is advised of patient rights and other necessary education tools to assist the patient.
- Performs other duties required to meet the goal of providing primary health care.
- Prepares community care referrals as needed.
- Reports abnormal results to the physician.
- Observes for the presence of any urgent problems needing immediate attention.
- Employment would be a full-time (40) hours per week/ non-exempt position during the SBHC calendar school year as established and approved by the governing school board.
- SBHC employees are only paid for hours worked during the time SBHC are open. SBHC employees are not paid during the summer when SBHC/schools are closed.
- Work schedules are generally Monday - Friday, based on clinical operations and during the approved SBHC calendar year (August - May). Work schedules are not a contract of employment and may change at the needs of the DRCHC.
- Perform other related duties as required or necessary.
Education/Experience Requirements: (The minimum qualifications can be with any combination of education and/or experience.)
- Completion of an accredited medical assistant program and current CMA certification.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic familiarity with routine medical protocol and terminology.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a healthcare team.
- Experience with electronic health records required, preferably Next Gen or similar EHS.
Licensure/Certifications:
- BLS required (American Heart Association)
