Responsibilities
- Perform dental prophylaxis, including cleaning teeth, removing plaque and tartar, and applying fluoride treatments to promote oral health.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions to inform treatment plans.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) using dental imaging equipment, ensuring accuracy and patient safety.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to empower them in maintaining healthy smiles.
- Assist the dentist during examinations and procedures through chairside assisting, including handling dental instruments and managing infection prevention protocols.
- Maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix), documenting treatment details, medical information, and patient interactions clearly and thoroughly.
- Adhere strictly to HIPAA regulations by maintaining patient confidentiality and managing medical records with integrity and professionalism.
- Follow infection prevention management practices using aseptic techniques and sterilization procedures to ensure a safe clinical environment.
- Monitor vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration rate, and oxygen saturation levels as part of comprehensive patient care.
- Support general dentistry procedures by assisting with dental equipment setup, sterilization, and ensuring compliance with healthcare infection control standards.
Qualifications
- Valid state licensure or certification as a Dental Hygienist with current registration requirements fulfilled.
- Proven experience working in dental office settings or clinics with familiarity in dental assisting roles.
- Proficiency in dental terminology, medical terminology, and understanding of anatomy related to oral health.
- Strong knowledge of dental x-ray procedures, X-ray safety protocols, and medical imaging techniques.
- Excellent client communication skills with the ability to educate patients effectively on dental care practices.
- Knowledge of HIPAA compliance management and infection control standards within healthcare environments.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently while maintaining a positive attitude under pressure.
