The Roads and Highways Practice is seeking Interns to join our Transportation team for Summer 2027 in the following locations: Portland or Salem, OR; Bellevue, Olympia, Spokane, Tacoma, or Tri-Cities, WA; Boise, Coeur d'Alene, or Pocatello, ID; Denver, CO; or Salt Lake City, UT.

The successful candidate will work on multidisciplinary projects with our Roads and Highways team, performing independent engineering calculations and design, using specialized technical skills, experience and engineering judgment to transform concept designs into construction drawings. The work may include developing plans for freeway, highway and local roadways, sidewalk and ADA improvements, signing and pavement markings, traffic signals, storm water facilities, and cost estimating. This work will also entail performing technical writing, quantity calculations, developing construction documents, and all supporting documentation.

What You’ll Do

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with the planning and design of roadway and transportation infrastructure projects.
• Support engineering calculations, plan preparation, cost estimates, and technical documentation.
• Develop and modify plans using Bentley OpenRoads Designer, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, and other design software.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams and review technical data.
• Participate in project meetings, site visits, and field observations.
• Gain hands-on experience through mentorship, training, and real-world engineering projects.
  
  

What You Bring

Required Qualifications:

• Applicants must be in the pursuit of an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, with at least 2 years of completed course work from an ABET accredited program
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)
• Ability to communicate and work in a team-oriented environment
• Demonstrate strong communication skills including active listening
• Willingness to ask questions
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to MicroStation, AutoCAD/C3D, OpenRoads Designer, and other design tools
