The Bridges and Structures Practice is seeking a motivated CAD Technician Intern who is eager to learn and contribute to a collaborative environment. This is a great opportunity for students or recent graduates to gain hands-on experience supporting the design and construction of transportation structures — including bridges, retaining walls, and more.

You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and designers, using industry-leading tools and software to help bring real-world infrastructure projects to life.

This six-month-long internship will be located in our Salem, OR office.

What You’ll Do

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the production of CAD drawings, layouts, and graphics for transportation structures such as reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, and steel designs
  • Support the development of construction documents by incorporating engineering markups with guidance from senior staff
  • Use design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and OpenRoads Designer to create and modify drawings
  • Learn and apply industry standards (e.g., AASHTO) under the direction of licensed engineers
  • Help maintain organized drawing files and adhere to company and project-specific drafting standards
  • Collaborate with team members using file-sharing platforms such as ProjectWise
  • Participate in quality checks and assist with updates to drawings and quantities as projects evolve

What You Bring

Required Qualifications:

  • Exposure to CAD software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, OpenRoads, or Civil 3D through coursework or academic projects
  • Basic understanding of drafting principles and engineering drawings
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed an Associate degree in Civil Drafting, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field
  • Experience with construction practices and industry terms like bid items, specifications, and design standards
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism through work quality, reliability, and initiative

  • The posted salary range represents the typical range for this position and is provided in accordance with applicable state and local pay transparency laws. Actual compensation will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
