Truck Driver – Local USPS Contractor (Johnson City, TN & Southwest Virginia)
Starting Pay: $26.30/hr $5.36/hr fringes
Schedule: Guaranteed 20 hours/week

Davenport Transportation Inc., a trusted contractor with the United States Postal Service, is seeking an experienced and dependable truck driver to join our team. We haul U.S. Mail throughout Johnson City, TN and Southwest Virginia, providing reliable, safe, and efficient transportation services.
This position is ideal for professional drivers who take pride in safety, compliance, and consistent route work. Certain routes include unpaid daily layovers ranging from six to nine hours in the truck, but there are no overnight layovers—drivers are home every night.
Requirements
- Valid CDL CLASS B or F Endorsement (Tennessee)
- Minimum 1 year experience driving a box truck
- Clean MVR
- Ability to pass a drug screen and background check
- Strong safety record and professional driving habits
Position Summary
Join our team as a Local Class B Driver or F Endorsment Driver supporting USPS operations. You will operate tractor‑trailers on designated local routes, ensuring timely and secure delivery of U.S. Mail. Key Duties
- Safely operate tractor‑trailers on assigned local routes in compliance with DOT regulations
- Load and unload bulk U.S. Mail using proper manual handling techniques
- Use GPS navigation systems to follow optimized delivery and pickup routes
- Perform thorough pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections
- Communicate effectively with dispatch regarding route changes, delays, or issues
Qualifications
- Valid Class B CDL or F Endorsement License with a clean driving record
- Experience in commercial truck driving, freight transportation, or delivery driving
- Knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, hazardous materials, and dangerous goods regulations
- Experience with manual transmission trucks and tractor‑trailers
- Ability to navigate efficiently using GPS systems
- Strong manual handling skills and commitment to safety
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
