Job Title: Museum Assistant
Location: Davenport House Museum, Savannah, GA
Position Overview:
The Davenport House Museum is seeking an enthusiastic and adaptable Museum Assistant to join our Visitor Services team. This public-facing role plays a key part in delivering an exceptional visitor experience by leading guided tours, supporting self-guided exploration, working in the museum shop, and helping with special programs and events. Ideal candidates are personable, dependable, and passionate about engaging the public with history.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct guided tours of the Davenport House, including general and specialty tours, providing in-depth knowledge and engaging storytelling about the house’s history.
- Work in a customer service and sales role in the Historic Kennedy Pharmacy Museum Shop.
- Supervise and support self-guided tour periods, engaging with visitors, answering questions, and ensuring visitors interact appropriately with the museum spaces.
- Provide prompt and accurate answers to visitor inquiries regarding the museum’s history and exhibits.
- Monitor museum rooms and visitor flow to maintain safety and security.
- Assist with the setup, execution, and breakdown of museum public programs and events.
Requirements:
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills to interact effectively with museum visitors.
- Comfortable with point of sales systems, money handling, and processing transactions.
- Flexible and adaptable in a dynamic work environment, with the ability to adjust to shifting needs while maintaining a positive and professional approach.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and move around the museum as needed.
- Reliable and punctual with a professional demeanor.
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including required availability on Wednesdays Thursdays, and Saturdays including occasional evenings.
- Ability to assist with various public programs and special events as needed.
- Interest and/or background in history, art history, museum studies, or a related field preferred.
Compensation:
- $15 per hour
- Part-time position, 15-20 hours per week
