Job Description:
The OS configuration team (comprised of System Engineers) manages the full lifecycle of retail POS systems from evaluation to retirement, by configuring, testing, and maintaining operating systems, application software, and system management.
SEs provide support for installation, software deployment, and T3 sub teams by developing scripting to automate tasks. For example, the SE team may provide scripting to streamline equipment staging, adjust software deployment scripting to be more efficient and fault tolerant, or provide troubleshooting scripts to the level 2 Ops team. The Store SEs have a strong Windows and retail backgrounds. SEs need physical access to equipment to test their scripts. The OS Configuration POS lab is located in Seattle at the SSC.
Key Responsibilities:
POS System Configuration & Management:
Manage the full lifecycle of retail POS systems, including evaluation, deployment, maintenance, and retirement.
Configure and test operating systems and application software for optimal performance.
Maintain system management tools to ensure smooth operations.
Automation & Scripting:
Develop and maintain automation scripts to enhance software deployment efficiency and system management.
Optimize deployment scripts to improve fault tolerance and reliability.
Create troubleshooting scripts to assist the Level 2 Operations team in diagnosing and resolving issues.
Software Deployment & Support:
Assist with installation and software deployment processes across retail locations.
Collaborate with Tier 3 support teams to troubleshoot and resolve system issues.
Work on refining and enhancing software deployment strategies for better efficiency.
Testing & Troubleshooting:
Conduct hands-on testing and validation of POS systems and related scripts.
Ensure system configurations and software deployments function as expected in a retail environment.
Provide technical support and documentation for troubleshooting processes.
What are the Mandatory skills and skill proficiencies required for this position?
Strong expertise in Windows operating systems and retail POS environments.
Proficiency in PowerShell for automation.
Experience with software deployment tools (e.g., SCCM, Marimba, Intune, ).
Hands-on experience with POS hardware and system configuration.
Familiarity with networking principles related to POS systems (e.g., VPNs, firewalls, IP configurations).
Ability to work in a fast-paced retail IT environment and manage multiple tasks effectively.
Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
