Responsibilities :
- Fuel procurement responsibilities include strategic sourcing, negotiating (spot market and contracts), procuring fuel, and communication/coordination with business units and suppliers, ensuring cost efficiency, quality, and regulatory compliance.
- Acts as a sourcing subject matter specialist for the assigned category to support category management objectives through development and execution of related plans and strategies in accordance with organizational priorities.
- Assists the category management team through the entire life cycle of assigned strategic sourcing initiatives and category, from requirements development through contract completion and transition, in accordance to strategic sourcing methodologies, processes and tools.
- Due to the nature of the maritime business/operations, this role operates 24 hours a day depending on business needs, ensuring fuel procurement and supply management are maintained without disruptions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Fuel Procurement and Negotiations: Source and negotiate competitive fuel pricing with suppliers to optimize costs while ensuring compliance and quality standards. Maintain a proactive understanding of fuel markets, pricing, port dynamics, availability of products and product specifications.
- Supplier Relationships: Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure reliable supply and favorable pricing/quality without risk to environment, safety or integrity of client. Assess supplier performance, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
- Market (Analysis): Monitor global fuel market trends and pricing to identify cost-saving opportunities while mitigating risks. Track fuel savings and develop cost-saving initiatives.
- Coordination with Business Units/Stakeholders: Work closely with the business units to coordinate fuel requirements/deliveries. Drive stakeholder satisfaction by fostering strong relationships and delivering knowledgeable advice on fuel solutions.
- Compliance (Regulatory): Ensure all fuel purchases meet maritime and environmental regulations.
- · Claims: Manage marine fuel quality and quantity ensuring timely follow up and resolution to claims.
- Risk: Identify any potential risks and establish mitigation measures.
- KPI's: Support and contribute to the category KPI's.
- Records/Documentation: Ensure all transactions are properly recorded, transparent and accessible for reference and audit purposes.
- Invoice management: Review supplier invoices, verification of pricing/delivery details and coordinating with Accounts Payable and Finance to process payments. Support financial reporting related to fuel procurement.
- Availability to manage fuel procurement 24/365: Monitor and respond to urgent fuel requirements, supplier negotiations and operational challenges to continuously support the business units/stakeholders.
- Support Lubricant Procurement: Provide backup for lubricant procurement as needed, ensuring understanding of lubricant procurement processes, products, suppliers, terms, and regulatory requirements to ensure seamless procurement/efficient workflow.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Strong negotiation skills and market analysis/forecasting capability.
- Ability to effectively manage and execute negotiations with vendors/suppliers bringing maximum value.
- Knowledge of contract language and an ability to review, redline, and negotiate various terms and conditions.
- Knowledge of international maritime regulations as it relates to fuel.
- Familiarity with bunker fuel product specifications.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and in writing) and relationship management skills (internal and external).
- Ability to function effectively with or as part of a team.
- Ability to effectively manage projects that may vary in nature and scope.
- Ability to work under pressure – managing multiple tasks effectively and efficiently.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, or a related field with 5-8 years of related strategic sourcing experience and vendor/supplier management; or combination of post high school education and related experience equal to nine (9) years.
