Job Description:

DataRobot delivers AI that maximizes impact and minimizes business risk. Our platform and applications integrate into core business processes so teams can develop, deliver, and govern AI at scale. DataRobot empowers practitioners to deliver predictive and generative AI, and enables leaders to secure their AI assets. Organizations worldwide rely on DataRobot for AI that makes sense for their business — today and in the future.

We're seeking an inspirational and strategic Senior Director of Product Design to define the future of the DataRobot platform and scale our world-class design organization. This is a pivotal role for an experienced leader who can drive organizational excellence, establish platform-wide design standards, and operate as a key executive partner across Product, Engineering, and Business Development. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in managing large design teams within an enterprise B2B software environment, along with practical knowledge of the AI/ML domain and emerging agentic AI workflows.

What You Will Be Doing: This role moves beyond product-level execution to focus on organizational structure, cross-domain alignment, and strategic influence across the entire company.

  • Design Vision and Standards (Platform-Wide): Articulate the overarching design vision, standards, and operating model for the entire Product Design team, ensuring processes and team structure are optimized to drive platform-wide experience consistency and business outcomes.
  • Organizational Health & Scaling: Take responsibility for the overall organizational structure, talent acquisition, and professional development of the design team. Ensure the team has the necessary skills, structure, and headcount to deliver a world-class experience across the entire DataRobot product portfolio.
  • Cross-Domain Alignment: Drive and own alignment across major product domains (e.g. build, govern and deploy capabilities), ensuring all product areas contribute harmoniously to a cohesive and elegant end-to-end user experience.
  • Strategic Design Practice Development: Act as a recognized thought leader in the ML/AI design space, defining and driving the strategic development of core design practices, the centralized design system, and global research operations.
  • Executive Advocacy and Influence: Represent Product Design to the executive leadership team and advocate for design thinking as a core process to solve complex business and technical challenges across all company capabilities.
  • Business Impact: Accountable for demonstrating the impact of design initiatives on key business metrics, such as user adoption, usage frequency, and customer retention, ensuring design creates a sustainable competitive advantage for DataRobot.
  • Design Culture & Identity: Actively shape the design team's identity and culture, fostering an inclusive, high-performing environment that attracts and retains top talent.
  • Mentorship and Growth: Cultivate the growth and career paths of design leaders (Directors and Principal Designers), ensuring they are equipped to scale their respective teams and product areas.
  • Company Values: Model and champion DataRobot’s core values, proactively contributing to cross-domain team culture and company-wide strategic initiatives.

Ideal candidate:

  • Experience: 10 years of experience in Product Design, with at least 3 years in senior management (Director level or above) overseeing large, distributed, and multi-disciplinary design teams.
  • Domain Expertise: Proven track record leading design for complex enterprise B2B software and a strong, practical understanding of AI/ML workflows and challenges.
  • Organizational Leadership: Demonstrated success in structuring, scaling, and optimizing a design team for maximum business impact and experience quality.
  • Communication: Exceptional ability to communicate and negotiate design strategy, resource allocation, and trade-offs with C-level and VP-level Product and Engineering partners.
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, HCI, or a related field.

What will make you stand out: This isn't a strategy or people-management only role. We need a maker, a doer, a leader—someone who loves to partner and can lead through the work.

  • Lead by doing: You set the standard for excellence and inspire teams to deliver their best work. You've shipped great software in ambiguous, fast-moving environments and know how to build momentum when the path isn't clear. You create the conditions for high performance and help teams navigate complexity with confidence.
  • Obsess about the details: Strong visual acuity matters. You know what great experiences look and feel like, and you can articulate how teams can get there. You demonstrate product sense in everything you touch.
  • Use AI to accelerate delivery: You actively use AI design and development tools in your workflow—whether for design exploration, prototyping, content generation, or code assistance. You've demonstrated how AI can compress timelines, elevate quality, and help teams work smarter. You're comfortable experimenting with new AI capabilities and teaching others how to integrate them effectively into their practice.
  • Understand code-first workflows: You have experience designing for technical, code-first platforms that blend CLI, API, and UI touchpoints. You think holistically about the user experience—understanding that great design spans visual interfaces, developer tools, documentation, and workflows. You know how to create cohesive experiences that serve both users who prefer code and those who need graphical interfaces.
