Role Description
The Commissioning Lead – Critical Power Systems role is available as either a salary full-time or casual hourly position and may be based across various project locations depending on assignment. This position is responsible for leading the commissioning of critical electrical and power systems, ensuring successful installation, start-up, testing, validation, and documentation of mission-critical equipment.
The Commissioning Lead will witness and validate commissioning activities for systems including dynamic load bank testing for generators, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), low- and medium-voltage switchgear, automatic and manual transfer switches, programmable logic controllers and their interaction with SCADA, BAS, and DCIM systems, as well as electrical continuity testing on bus ducts. The role also includes creating and reviewing commissioning scripts across L0-L6 levels, planning project-specific commissioning schedules, collecting and delivering detailed commissioning reports, verifying compliance with project requirements and applicable regulations, and reviewing related test documentation.
This role requires close coordination with clients, contractors, and internal project teams to align expectations, identify and resolve issues, and ensure systems are commissioned safely, accurately, and in accordance with project objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent technical experience
- 3–5 years of experience in commissioning or testing of electrical power systems
- Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems and critical power infrastructure
- Experience with generators, UPS systems, switchgear, transfer switches, and bus duct testing
- Familiarity with PLCs and their interaction with SCADA, BAS, and DCIM systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and electrical schematics
- Experience with commissioning processes, systems testing, and performance validation
- Strong project planning, scheduling, reporting, and documentation skills
- Excellent communication and client-facing abilities with strong coordination skills
- Detail-oriented with strong technical writing and documentation capabilities
- Experience in data centers or other mission-critical facilities is preferred
