Position Overview
Datapoint is seeking an experienced and driven Upstream Oil & Gas Project Manager to lead survey projects supporting exploration, development, and production operations. This role serves as the primary client liaison and internal team lead for a portfolio of upstream oil and gas engagements, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and regulatory compliance.
The ideal candidate brings a strong background in land surveying operations within upstream oil and gas environments, combined with exceptional project management, communication, and client relationship skills.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership
• Manage the full lifecycle of upstream oil and gas survey projects, from proposal development and scope definition through field execution, deliverable production, and project closeout
• Develop detailed project plans, work breakdown structures, schedules, and resource allocations
• Coordinate with licensed surveyors, field crews, CAD technicians, and sub-consultants to ensure seamless project delivery
• Monitor project health against KPIs including budget, schedule, safety, and quality metrics; proactively identify and resolve issues
Client & Stakeholder Management
• Serve as the primary point of contact for upstream partners
• Lead project kickoff meetings, progress reviews, and final deliverable presentations
• Manage client expectations, scope changes, and contract modifications through formal change order processes
• Build long-term client relationships to support repeat business and account growth
Technical Oversight
• Oversee survey scopes common to upstream oil and gas projects, including:
• Well pad location and boundary surveys
• Pipeline and flow line route surveys
• Right-of-way surveys and plats
• Surface damage and lease boundary surveys
• Topographic and site characterization surveys
• Federal permit packet production & delivery
• C-102 completions
• Review and approve field data, survey calculations, plats, legal descriptions, and CAD deliverables for accuracy and compliance
• Ensure all work adheres to applicable state surveying regulations, BLM/GLO, & TX RRC standards, and client-specific requirements
Business Development Support
• Contribute to proposals, cost estimates, and RFP responses for upstream oil and gas opportunities
• Identify opportunities to expand service offerings within existing client accounts
• Represent Datapoint at industry events, conferences, and trade organizations
Compliance & Safety
• Champion a safety-first culture; ensure all field operations comply with Datapoint's HSSE policies and client site-specific requirements
• Maintain awareness of environmental and permitting considerations relevant to upstream survey activities (NEPA, state oil and gas regulations, federal leasing requirements)
Required
• 5 years in recent, active, and comparable Project Management
• Demonstrated knowledge of upstream E&P operations, and well permitting processes
• Thorough proficiency in records research
• High-level proficiency with AutoCAD, Autodesk products, and/or Carlson software
• Proficient with project and deliverables templates & CAD automation tools
• Proficient in tracking budgets, performance, and project delivery
• Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and field crews across varied geographical areas
• GIS familiarity and ability to follow GIS integrated workflows
• Ability to work effectively with a team in a high performing environment

Preferred
• Experience working in major U.S. oil and gas basins (Permian, Eagle Ford, DJ Basin, Arkoma, or Appalachia)
• Familiarity with GIS platforms (Esri ArcGIS, QGIS)
• Software development/ engineering
• Ability to utilize FME, Python, and/or Power BI
• Light coding & program deployment
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
