McKinsey & Company
Who You’ll Work With
You will work in the Data Visualization Lab to deliver distinctive client impact through assets and expertise as driven by a culture of innovation. The team is part of Build Labs, a unit within Build by McKinsey, a group focused on engineering teams creating production scale assets that accelerate client digital transformations.
The Data Visualization Lab is an experimental studio that pairs advanced data visualization techniques with design thinking to communicate business insights to our clients. Our group works across industries and sectors, so one day you might be working on a tool to visually explore big data for a healthcare client and a week later you might be making a dataviz comic book for our consumer practice.
What You’ll Do
You will be the technical data visualization expert that gives shape to data and develops the code to ensure it communicates to the intended audience. You will primarily build interactive data visualizations for a variety of uses, from client websites to stakeholder dashboards.
We believe in the power of teamwork, so you and a designer will closely collaborate with clients and other consulting teams to understand the data, prototype the visualization, and engineer the finished data visualization. You will collaborate with other technical leads to create documented, modular, and performant code that is compliant with engineering guidelines and standards. We believe that notebooks (digital & pen and paper) are the fastest way to explore complex data sets and collaborate on the shape of the data and your familiarity with rapid prototyping methods is a necessity.
You will act as an ambassador for existing and innovative data visualization technologies. You will radiate your expertise by mentoring colleagues and giving presentations and publishing articles on dataviz concepts. You are unafraid to add new ideas to a discussion and excited to share your passion for data visualization.
