Manufacturing CAD Drafter

Data Metalcraft is seeking an experienced Manufacturing CAD Drafter to join our Engineering Department. This role is intended for a candidate with approximately 5 years of experience and strong knowledge of sheet metal drafting and manufacturing preparation, with SolidWorks preferred.

In this position, you will take customer prints and CAD files and verify that all dimensions match exactly between the print and the CAD model. You will create flattened sheet metal prints and prepare accurate manufacturing information for production through turret presses, laser cutters, forming, hardware insertion, welding, grinding, and painting. This role is critical to ensuring the shop floor receives complete, correct, and usable information so production can move efficiently and accurately through every stage of the process.

Responsibilities

• Review customer prints, drawings, and CAD files for accuracy, completeness, and manufacturability.
• Cross-check dimensions to verify the CAD model and customer print match exactly.
• Apply bend reductions and create flat patterns for sheet metal manufacturing.
• Prepare and release production-ready information for turret press and laser cutting operations.
• Maintain accurate drawings, models, revisions, and engineering documentation.
• Work within established systems for routing, processing, and information management.
• Ensure each operation receives correct and complete information for successful execution.
• Identify discrepancies, missing information, or manufacturability concerns and communicate them clearly.
• Support consistency and accuracy in engineering handoff to production.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of CAD software.
• SolidWorks strongly preferred.
• Approximately 5 years of experience in drafting, manufacturing CAD, or engineering support.
• Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and customer prints.
• Experience with sheet metal fabrication.
• Understanding of bend reductions, flat pattern development, and manufacturing preparation.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a manufacturing environment.
• Technical college training is a plus.

Preferred Background

• Experience in sheet metal manufacturing or metal fabrication.
• Experience supporting turret press and laser cutting operations.
• Familiarity with forming, hardware insertion, welding, grinding, and paint process flow.
• Experience releasing accurate manufacturing information to the shop floor.

Pay: $28.00 - $33.00 per hour
