Primary Function:

The Estimator is an estimating professional responsible for supporting the development of cost estimates for Dashiell’s high-voltage EPC projects. Working under direct supervision, the Estimator performs quantity take-offs, compiles vendor pricing, assembles bid documentation, and provides data and administrative support to senior estimating staff throughout the bid and proposal process. The position will be based in our Houston, Texas office located at 12301 Kurland Drive STE 400, Houston, TX 77034.

This position will be filled at the Estimator I, II, or III level. Final placement will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience, demonstrated skill set, and performance during the interview process. Compensation and title will be commensurate with the level at which the candidate is hired.

Duties & Responsibilities

Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:

  • Perform quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications for standard project components under the direction of senior estimating staff.
  • Compile and organize vendor and subcontractor pricing for review by senior estimators.
  • Assist in preparing and issuing Requests for Quotation (RFQs) to approved vendors; track and log quotes received.
  • Enter and maintain estimate data, pricing, and bill-of-material information in estimating spreadsheets and systems.
  • Assemble bid packages, proposal documents, and supporting exhibits for management review.
  • Maintain organized records of estimates, quotes, and bid documentation for active and completed pursuits.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and project management staff to gather the information needed to support estimates.
  • Support the preparation of scope clarifications and bid summaries as directed.
  • Verify the accuracy and completeness of pricing data and take-off quantities against source documents.
  • Perform special projects and complete other duties as assigned or requested.

  • Enable accurate, on-time bid submissions by providing dependable take-off and pricing support to the estimating team.
  • Strengthen the integrity of Dashiell’s estimates through careful data entry, organization, and verification of cost information.
  • Free senior estimators to focus on analysis and strategy by handling the compilation and documentation that underpin every bid.
  • Build the foundational estimating skills and product knowledge needed to advance within the estimating career path.

Minimum Qualifications / Experience

Required

  • Associate’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred (two years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the required degree).
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in estimating, project controls, purchasing, project coordination, or a related construction/EPC support function for qualification as Estimator I. Those candidates with additional experience may be considered for higher roles.
  • Basic understanding of construction documents, drawings, and specifications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with strong Excel skills for data entry and tracking.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when working with numbers and technical information.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Preferred

  • Exposure to high-voltage electrical, utility, or EPC construction projects.
  • Familiarity with estimating or take-off software.
  • Basic understanding of project scheduling.

Physical Requirements 

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and operating office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to occasionally stand and walk within an office environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally.
