What are the responsibilities and job description for the Physician, Family Medicine Residency Program Director position at Dartmouth Health?
Inaugural Family Medicine Residency Program Director - Southwestern Vermont Medical Center / Dartmouth Health
Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC), a member of Dartmouth Health (DH), is seeking a Family Medicine Residency Program Director for the first family medicine residency administered by DH. The health system is committed to establishing a new residency program at SVMC in Bennington, Vermont. Currently there is only one other program that is actively training family medicine residents in the State of Vermont. The residency program is anticipated to start in 2029 with 6 residents.
In collaboration with the established graduate medical education (GME) training program at DH, residents will train primarily at SVMC with the benefit of completing some rotations at DH. SVMC is well-positioned for training rural family medicine residents as it has a busy emergency department, active labor and delivery service and is in the process of opening an adolescent behavioral health unit. The primary care community employed by DH/SVMC includes four mixed adult/pediatric primary care clinics staffed by family medicine physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs), one adult care clinic staffed by internal medicine physicians and APPs and one pediatric care clinic staffed by pediatricians and APPs. The internal medicine and pediatric practices are located on the SVMC campus in Bennington, whereas the other four family medicine clinics are in the surrounding communities. In total, these clinics employ over 30 primary care providers and provide care for roughly 31,000 patients.
The primary care clinics are supported by members of the Vermont Blueprint for Health, who provide behavioral health and case management support. A busy Express Care clinic located next to the SVMC Emergency Department provides additional same day access to our patients. A focus on APP training and retention, increased virtual support and telemedicine services are among SVMC's goals for expansion of primary care in addition to the residency program. The patient population skews geriatric, but providers care for a broad range of socioeconomic disparities and a diversity of life experiences.
