General Summary:

Under general supervision, oversees crew engaged in daily servicing of bus vehicles for Dallas Area Rapid Transit's (DART) Fleet Maintenance Division.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists Supervisor with work task assignments; verify daily time records; assist in Servicer training.
  • Maintains accurate records of work performed; assure documentation is kept concerning amounts of fuel, engine oil and coolant dispensed at each servicing.
  • Orders servicing supplies and equipment as required.
  • Reports defects on buses or bus servicing equipment noted during servicing cycle.
  • Operates steam-cleaning equipment to clean vehicle areas and vehicle components; operate machinery and motor vehicles.
  • Inspects tires for flats or defects, and repairs and/or replaces as necessary; torques lug nuts.
  • Performs bus service as required which includes, but is not limited to driving bus through washer, operating vacuum cleaner system, dusting seats and interior, washing vehicle floor and soiled areas, etc.
  • Assists Technicians or Mechanics with maintenance, service and repair of vehicles and/or facilities, which includes, but is not limited to checking fuel, engine oil, fluid levels, adding and/or replacing as required.
  • Transports vehicles and/or facility parts between areas,
  • Promotes and adhere to established safety, training, and quality assurance programs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

  • High school or general education (GED) diploma.
  • Two (2) years related experience-servicing motor vehicles.
  • Must have a valid Texas Drivers License class C; no Driving While Intoxicated (DWI/DUI) conviction within the last (60) consecutive months, not more than one (1) DWI/DUI on driving record, and not more than two (2) convictions of moving violations within the last (36) consecutive months on driving record in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.
  • Must pass a physical (medical) examination, which includes a drug screen in order to operate DART revenue and non-revenue vehicles; incumbents are subject to the federal testing regulations of safety sensitive positions, which include random alcohol and drug testing as a condition of continued employment.
  • Must be able to orally communicate in an effective manner with the public, co-workers, supervisors and managers to ensure efficient operations; to promote safety; and to respond to emergencies. Must also be able to read and comprehend safety rules and regulations.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and be able to interact effectively with a diverse customer population while under pressure.
  • Ability to work variable shifts, irregular hours, nights, holidays, weekends, and short notice availability. May be required to travel to multiple work locations.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to seventy (70) pounds such as tools, equipment, and parts; must be able to work in crowded and tight spaces on the vehicle, tunnel, and aerial structures.
  • Operates forklift, yard sweeper, and multi-axle vehicles as required.
  • Operates DART non-revenue vehicles as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works in an environment where there is minimum exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals while visiting DART''''s operating facilities, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
