Darrow School is seeking a Custodian / Facilities Member to join our team to work one of two shifts;
 either 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM, or 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM.
This Custodian / Facilities Member reports to the Facilities Manager, and Director of Facilities and plays a vital role in maintaining the overall physical integrity and operational safety of the campus. All facilities staff are responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment that supports the daily educational mission. Clear communication, frequent check-ins, and any form of updates with your supervisor and directors is required. 

This position includes, but is not limited to physical labor, janitorial and cleanliness duties, reporting safety and sanitary hazards, following up with said concerns, and assisting other facilities employees when assigned to do so. A schedule of preventive maintenance tasks, alongside regularly occurring responsibilities, and future projects will be available in the Facilities Office.

General Responsibilities:

• Daily cleaning of student dormitories, classrooms, and administrative areas
  • Sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, windows, trash disposal, and waxing
• Assisting with the setup and teardown of campus events, including but not limited to; graduation, commencement, open house, etc.
• Ensuring safety standards are met throughout campus, including but not limited to; monitoring hygiene, heat and water, labeling of chemicals, snow removal and de-icing, locking doors, checking for leaks and structural damage, etc.
• Monitor and respond to any work orders, performing “as-needed tasks” around campus
• Keep up with the preventative maintenance schedule
• Other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager and Director of Facilities

Qualifications and Experience:

• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Experience handling snowplows, and other small industrial cleaning equipment preferred but not necessary
• Basic “handyman skills” preferred but not necessary
• Must pass a background check, with a clean criminal record
• Previous experience in custodial work is preferred but not required
• Strong communication, and analytical skills
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
• Proactive problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
• Commitment to ongoing professional development of Darrow School and its students

• Darrow School facilities operate on a schedule separate from the remainder of Darrow School employees.
  • Members of facilities will observe, and have the day-off, with pay, for the following Holidays:
  • New Years Eve, New Years Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Day-After-Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, Day-After-Christmas.
• 40 Hours Sick / Personal Time
• 80 Hours PTO / Vacation Time
