JOB TITLE:
Medication Technician
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have legal right to work in the United States
- Must be able to speak, read, and write in English
- Must be willing to participate in pre-employment screening and drug screen
Essential Functions: Under the guidance of the Pharmacist, the Medication Technician shall perform all duties as assigned to include the ordering, retrieving, quality checking and administering of medications as they are prescribed. This position shall ensure the appropriate delivery of the medication as well as the proper recording of administration under Darrin’s Place guidelines. The Medication Technician shall ensure all adherence to appropriate Federal and State guidelines. Phlebotomy certification a plus.

1. Needs of Person Served: Understands Substance Use Disorders. Recognizes the complex context of substance abuse. Understands co-occurring Mental Health disorders and impact on treatment.
2. Clinical Skills Needed for Position: Has a working knowledge of the treatment of Substance Abuse across varying models, theories, philosophies, practices, and treatment outcomes as well as the effects and side-effects of pharmacological resources used to treat co-occurring disorders.
3. Person-centered Plan Development: Has a working knowledge of the principles of person-centered plan development and implements into practice with pharmacological impact utilized in tandem with other evidence based practice models.
4. Interviewing Skills: Ability to engage effectively in clinical interviewing to determine effects and side effects and their impact of prescribed medications. Motivational Interviewing techniques.
5. Evidence Based Practices: Understanding about program approved EBPs
6. Clinical Risk Factors: Able to identify risk factors for suicide, violence and other risky behaviors as well as their tie to potential medications and their side effects. Knowledgeable regarding interventions for safety when risk factors are identified.
Position Duties:
1. Provide support and duties under the guidance of the Pharmacist
2. Order, receive, and maintains inventory of supply items in Medication Room
3. Prepare and assist client in the self-administration of his/her prescribed or otherwise authorized medications
4. Record administered medication in client Medication Administration Records (MAR)
5. Contact pharmacies to request medications ordered by the provider and managed by Pharmacist
6. Retrieve medications from approved pharmacies and verify that information on the retrieved medication is complete and accurate.
7. Enter data in computer system or written record, recording all the prescriptions, purchase orders, requisitions, and disbursements of medications
8. Create requisitions for medications and supplies with professional guidance from the pharmacist
9. Any and all responsibilities as assigned by Pharmacist while also ensuring proper adherence to all Federal and State licensing laws and regulations
10. Ensure adherence to HIPPA and maintain Privacy standards
