About the Position

Darlington County Disabilities and Special Needs Board is seeking a Vocational Activity Coordinator to plan, coordinate, and implement meaningful activities and services for individuals with disabilities in our ICF and Day Program settings.

This position plays an important role in creating opportunities that promote socialization, physical activity, cognitive development, creativity, independence, and overall quality of life for the individuals we serve.

The ideal candidate is creative, organized, dependable, and passionate about working with individuals with disabilities. This position requires someone who can work independently, collaborate with staff, and adapt activities to meet the needs and interests of the individuals served.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement engaging activities for ICF residents and Bridging the Gap (BTG) individuals.
  • Assist with facility-wide and program-specific activities and events.
  • Develop monthly activity calendars and coordinate entertainment, outings, and other activities.
  • Research new and innovative activities that promote socialization, physical and cognitive development, and community involvement.
  • Assist individuals with personal projects and activities such as crafts, writing, reading, and other creative pursuits.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate activity reports, records, proposals, evaluations, and other required documentation.
  • Maintain an inventory of activity supplies and equipment and submit requests for supplies as needed.
  • Participate in staff meetings, educational workshops, in-service training, and other required training.
  • Communicate effectively with individuals served, families, staff, supervisors, surveyors, and consultants.
  • Assist with identifying needs, resolving concerns, and improving the quality and effectiveness of services.
  • Work collaboratively with members of the agency's leadership team to support agency programs and goals.
  • Maintain a professional appearance, attitude, and conduct at all times.
  • Follow all agency policies, procedures, licensing requirements, and the DCDSNB Code of Conduct.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking ForMinimum Qualifications

  • At least four (4) years of experience working in the field of disabilities and special needs.
  • At least one (1) year of experience working in a residential program, including experience implementing treatment and activity plans and providing support to individuals with disabilities.
  • Current and valid South Carolina driver's license.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals at various levels within the organization.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations.
  • Ability to use a computer and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop creative and innovative activities and solutions.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments and may involve exposure to varying temperatures, noise, and other workplace hazards.

Physical requirements may include standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, grasping, and other physical activities. The position may also require driving, working extended hours, evenings, weekends, or double shifts when necessary to meet program needs.
