What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teacher Assistants position at Darke County Educational Service Center?
The Darke County Educational Service Center is seeking three (3) teacher assistants in multiple disabilities and/or structured behavior classrooms located in various Darke County schools starting with the 2025-2026 school year.
DARKE COUNTY SCHOOLS
POSITION GUIDE TITLE: Instructional/Teacher Aide
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must have a high school diploma and ability to meet certification requirements for an Educational Aide certificate.
2. Shall possess a valid driver’s license.
3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
4. Shall pass the BCI/FBI background checks.
REPORTS TO: Assigned instructor(s)
JOB GOALS: To assist the instructor in the education of the students in a specific classroom.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Participate in team approach to student programming.
2. Assists in planning and helps carry out education programs.
3. Assists in individual and small group activities.
4. Assists with behavior problems and maintaining discipline in the classroom.
5. Assists in the supervision of outside or recreational activities of students.
6. Assists in maintaining student attendance records.
7. Assists in maintaining evaluation and testing records.
8. Assists with toilet procedures and diapering of students.
9. Assists students during lunch time.
10. Assists with student bus boarding and unboarding.
11. Constructs or creates educational aids for class or individual instruction.
12. Participates in special training and staff development programs, staff meetings, and other specialized programs.
13. May be assigned to one or more classrooms.
14. May assist other departments when regular classrooms are closed.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
2. Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
3. Remains free of an alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout employment in the ESC.
4. Conducts other duties related to the Instructional/Teacher Aide duties as assigned by the Director of Pupil Services and/or designee.
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
2. Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions.
3. Occasional interaction among unruly children.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. Employed for 185 days at 7.25 hours per day.
2. Salary to be established as per salary schedule.
3. There will be no vacation pay incurred in this position.
4. Holiday pay shall be given for the following days: Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, and Memorial Day.
5. Retirement and Sick Leave days accumulated as determined by board policy.
6. Board paid employee insurance benefits as per board policy and regulations.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the instructor(s) to which assigned in cooperation with the Director of Pupil Services and/or designee in cooperation with the person being evaluated.
