Job Summary
The Medical Assistant Floater supports physicians, mid-level providers, nurses, and patients. When needed, the Medical Assistant Floater moves between departments and clinic sites to offer support.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Clinical Functions
- Responsible for knowing the Medical Assistant scope of practice
- Prepare charts and obtain consents
- Collects all gaps in care to ensure the best quality of care for patients
- Receive patients, take and record chief complaints, and prepare patient for examination; record blood pressure, pulse, respirations, pulse oximetry, height and weight
- Prepare patients for examinations or procedures including positioning, draping, shaving,and disinfecting treatment sites
- Explain procedures to patients as requested by clinic personnel
- Collect specimens, take EKGs, and collect blood samples as requested by clinic personnel
- Assist the physician with examination, treatments, minor surgery, dressing changes, and splinting
- Assist the provider in the collection of specimens such as pap smears and throat cultures
- Administer medications orally, topically, vaginally, rectally, subcutaneously, intramuscularly, and intradermally
- Prepare and replenish supplies in the treatment room and exam rooms
- Maintain exam rooms in an orderly and constant state of readiness for incoming patients
- Perform simple laboratory procedures such as blood sugars and urine dips
- Sterilize instruments and maintain diagnostic and therapeutic equipment as well as a safe and clean environment
- Dispose of contaminated, disposable, and outdated items per protocol
- Perform necessary vision screening and operate the oximeter, audiometer, nebulizer and spirometer as directed
- Demonstrate willingness to assist co-workers whenever needed
- Maintain good working relationships with all clinic personnel
- Review patient record forms for accuracy and completion
- Attend all staff meetings and health fairs
- Observe DAP Health policies and procedures
- Provide compassionate quality care to the patients of DAP Health, within the scope of practice outlined by state or federal law
- Perform other duties as needed.
Floating Functions
- Provide support to various departments as needed
- Fill in for medical assistants who are absent or on leave
- Adapt to different clinical environments and workflows
- Ensure continuity of care and support across department
Required Skills/Abilities

- Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred
Education and Experience
- Medical assistant certificate or signed training on venipuncture, infectious prevention, patient privacy, basic anatomy, and physiology by Registered Nurse or Physician
- Minimum of 2-year work experience as a Medical Assistant preferred
- Current BLS certification obtained through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Certified Medical Assistant, preferred
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
- This job operates in an office as well as clinic settings and requires frequent times of sitting, standing, repetitive motion, and talking
- Ability to lift to 20 pounds and move from place to place
- Ensures compliance with policies and procedures related to safe work practices
- Requires current and valid driver’s license and current personal auto insurance as well as reliable transportation
- Involves extensive travel to DAP Health locations throughout San Diego and the Coachella Valley
- Available for all shifts and, when required, able to work evenings and weekends
Salary : $21 - $25
