What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wine Educator position at DAOU Family Estates?

The Wine Educator is responsible for creating a memorable wine and customer service experience while promoting the sale of wines and wine club memberships. Additionally, this role is responsible for serving, setting-up, and clean-up of all tasting room functions.



  • Greet all visitors and pour wines for tasting.
  • Customize guest experience utilizing reservation notes, order history and preferences.
  • Create an exclusive and memorable experience for each guest, including grounds tours and sharing the DAOU story.
  • Promote our wines, culinary experiences, and club memberships while providing a world-class customer experience and anticipating the customers every need.
  • Build relationships and recruit members to our exclusive Membership.
  • Maintain Membership CRM including proper data capture and visit notes.
  • Describe wines and authentic winery history; answer visitors questions.
  • Assist with display and stocking of retail items and wines.
  • Assist with special events.
  • Acquire and maintain thorough knowledge of winery, the wines and its functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness of facilities.
  • Prepare each table before a guest is seated and maintain table throughout visit.
  • Maintain the bar throughout service.
  • Follow up with guests and members over the phone and in writing.
  • Professional demeanor.

  • Passion for wine, food, and service.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays and some evenings.

  • Continues to strive for excellence from own performance and remains self-motivated to improve results, both in selling and productivity.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

Success Factors/Job Competencies

  • Works efficiently and follows company standards, with or without immediate supervision.
  • Possesses knowledge of principles and processes for providing exceptional visitor experiences.
  • Continues to strive for excellence from own performance and remains self-motivated to improve results, both in selling and productivity.
  • Previous tasting room, sales or hospitality experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of wine and wine production.
  • Wine Certification with the Society of Wine Educators, Court of Master Sommeliers, or WSET preferred


Working Conditions

  • Regular working schedule to include weekends and holidays.
  • Long and irregular hours during peak seasons and/or special events.
  • Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs.
  • Standing for long periods of time (8 hours per day).


Compensation for this role is $15.50/hr. This position is eligible to participate in the tip pool at DAOU.
