What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mexican Folklorico Instructor (2025-2026) position at Danzantes del Valle?
About the Position:
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Mexican Folklórico Dance Instructor to join our after-school enrichment program. The ideal candidate will share the rich cultural heritage of Mexico through traditional dance instruction while creating an engaging and supportive learning environment for students. If there is no previous experience, training will be provided.
Schedule:
- Open availability Monday through Friday, 2:30 PM - 6:00 PM
- Additional hours may be required for performances and special events
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach Mexican Folklórico dance techniques, choreography, and cultural context to students ages 6-11
- Design age-appropriate lesson plans that incorporate both dance instruction and cultural education
- Maintain inventory of dance props, costumes, and practice skirts
- Coordinate with parents regarding performance attire and practice schedules
- Organize and direct student performances for school events and community showcases
- Track student attendance and progress
- Foster an inclusive environment that celebrates Mexican culture and traditions
Qualifications:
- Previous teaching experience, preferably with children and adolescents
- Comprehensive knowledge of various regional Mexican dance styles, music, and traditions
- If no experience, willing to learn/train additional days
- Strong understanding of proper dance techniques and injury prevention
- Excellent communication skills in English; Spanish language proficiency preferred
- Ability to manage classroom dynamics and maintain student engagement
- Experience choreographing for group performances
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to demonstrate dance moves and techniques
- Extended periods of standing, walking, and dancing
- Lifting and moving of props and equipment up to 25 pounds
