GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK

Middle School Cadet Program is a sequence of middle school courses and a supplemental after-school program that prepares young people for secondary and post-secondary pathways. Through intensive leadership development, students gain the confidence, teamwork, and critical thinking skills necessary for future success. The Program also promotes healthy and balanced lifestyle choices, active goal setting, more effective relationships, and meaningful community involvement.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

• Motivate young people to become better citizens and scholars
• Educate students in leadership, character, citizenship, and life-enhancing skills
• Provide positive support and a disciplined learning environment
• Build self-confidence and self-esteem
• Develop academic and social skills of students
• Maintains good relations with school authorities, faculty, and the student body; maintains current regulations, policies, and procedures and maintains contact with parents of all cadets experiencing academic or behavioral problems.
• Utilizes all available instructional equipment
• Conducts a public affairs effort in the local area middle schools among school and community officials, civic groups, parent-teacher groups, and other individuals or groups designed to further the understanding of JROTC.
• Enrolls students in Middle School Cadet program and supports school officials while executing the curriculum and the integrated and extracurricular activities.
• Directs and participates in community service events with cadets, including weekend duties as applicable
• Prepares weekly training schedules
• Establishes and maintains at least two integrated or extracurricular teams, e.g., drill, rifle, raider, academic, and orienteering.
• Supports and maintains a "Cadet-run" Middle School Cadet unit.
• Participates in the annual Middle Cadet Leadership Challenge (summer leadership program) as required.
• E nsures cadet Service Learning Projects (SLR) are developed, planned, organized, conducted, and reviewed by other cadets.
• Ensures that unit Middle School Cadet areas are neat and orderly: current chain of command photos, Cadet creed, core abilities, and mission statement are present, and all sensitive items are secured.
• Submits required reports, as necessary, in accordance with the required reports listing.
• Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator
• Participates in and provides business partners for the CTE Advisory Board.
• Sponsors the local chapter of their respective CTSO (Career & Technical Student Organization); Encourages and assists students in competition preparation.
• Coordinates and oversees WBL experiences.
• Fosters workplace readiness skills by strategically integrating Virginia’s 5Cs into daily lesson plans.
• Must wear Naval Attire daily.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Must be a retired United States Navy Non-Commissioned Officer. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Must be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License and meet the minimum qualifications required by the Department of Military Forces. Must possess effective instructional delivery techniques, excellent communication skills, and the ability to motivate students to excel.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

The physical requirements described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. The physical agility to lift to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

10 months (200 days)

EVALUATION

Performance evaluation will be conducted annually by the School Principal on the effectiveness by which the employee has carried out the above responsibilities.
