EMS LIEUTENANT NIGHT SHIFT

The Shift Lieutenant will be assigned to a specific station and apparatus. The shift lieutenant will be primarily assigned to a transport unit. The Shift Lieutenant will be assigned to night shift.

The Shift Lieutenant responds to emergency calls and supervises activities or assigned personnel and ensures the facilities, apparatus, and equipment remain in a state of operational readiness on their respective shift. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Crew Leadership

· Work with DATC Training leadership to correct member and staff substandard performance through coaching and remediation.

· Integrate into any role in the incident command system.

· Assures all call reports for all personnel are complete by the end of shift.

· Possess the ability to carry out written and verbal instructions.

· Availability to work flexible schedules and hours based on the needs of the business.

· Serve as both a mentor and preceptor to new and current employees

· Ensure personnel safety and accountability, work with career and volunteer personnel alike to maintain seamless operations during emergency and non-emergency situations.

· Complete supply requests as needed

· Report any maintenance needs

· Report on any facilities needs

· Serves as a Field Training Officer (FTO)

Emergency Response

· Respond on assigned apparatus as dispatched by the 911 center

· Respond to Rescue and EMS calls in compliance with DLSC policies, procedures, and guidelines.

· Conduct training on shifts to assure personnel compliance with CBS.

· Ensure all call reports are completed after each call and completed by end of each shift.

· Ensure that all apparatus and equipment is in a state of operational readiness and properly stocked.

· Participate in assuring quality through post-incident analysis and debriefings.

· Review and publish Truck Checklist every shift for compliance.

· Perform inspection of minor repairs to equipment and facilities.

· Facility housekeeping.

Community Engagement

· Possess the ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers/members and function as a team member.

· Interacts effectively, professionally, and tactfully with all participating members, staff, agencies, and the public.

· Address public concerns, mediate, and resolve problems as a representative of the DLSC.

· De-escalate situations between staff, members, and/or the public.

DATC Philosophy

· Possess a working knowledge of Company policies, procedures, and guidelines.

· Promote departmental policies, procedures, objectives, safety, and quality assurance programs.

Support the philosophies and decisions of the DATC and DLSC officers and Board members.

· Other duties assigned by the Chief, Deputy Chief, Chief Operations Officer, Shift Captain and/or Battalion Chief.

· Virginia EMT-I or EMT-P

· In good standing with the DATC & DLSC with no corrective actions within the last ninety (90) days

· Minimum 2 years’ experience as an EMS provider

· NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800.

· MCIM 1 & 2.

· Vehicle Rescue Awareness

· TIMS (based on class availability)

· NIMS ICS 300 within one year of promotion

· Vehicle Extrication Certification within one year of promotion

· Successful completion of a field training program resulting in release to function as a Field Supervisor

· Knowledge of DLSC policies, procedures, and guidelines, HIPAA rules and regulations, DLSC training requirements, and WVOEMS Protocols.

Other skills also include effective communication, leadership, problem solving and ability and willingness to follow procedures and policies.

· The employee must frequently lift transfer, maneuver, load, and otherwise move clients and/or equipment weighing up to 250 pounds with a partner. Such maneuvers are often performed in surroundings that involve numerous steps, narrow pathways, and around obstacles, and often must be performed in a time-efficient manner while still ensuring their own safety as well as the safety of the client, their partner, and any other individuals or objects in the area. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus both day and night.

· Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted.

84 hours per pay cycle on a 2-2-3 rotation.

When serving in the absence of the Captain or Battalion Chief, the work week is a rotating up to 24-hour shifts with hours varying based on EMS needs and includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
