What are the responsibilities and job description for the Industrial Trainer position at Danville Community College?
This is a face-to-face position in the Workforce Services division of the college.
The Industrial Trainer will work to establish and maintain a variety of training programs to meet the needs of industry. Areas of emphasis will be in manufacturing, industrial maintenance, HVAC, electrical technology, etc. The trainer will also work closely with industry partners to establish training specific to the company. This position reports to the Vice President of Workforce Services and is critical to the successful operation of Workforce Services and the establishment of industry training and programming. The position is located at the Regional Center for Advanced Technology and Training at Danville Community College.
Job Responsibilities:
- Teaches trades classes and works directly with workforce instructors to provide mentorship, and ensures quality instruction and student completion.
- Trains other instructors to expand the range of options and improve schedule timing to meet industry needs.
- Engages with workforce agencies, community organizations to identify possible training opportunities in the service region.
- Works with academic deans and faculty to develop partnerships with academic programs to build connections with DCC business partners.
- Applies knowledge of technology, industry standards and practice to students from diverse backgrounds.
- Establishes program standards and recommends policy changes.
- Creates and presents program materials.
- Engages with management, community resources, and programmatic staff to discuss recommendations or provide advice on complex studies.
- Attends meetings, seminars and conferences useful to recruiting, community relations and marketing. Travels throughout the service region to meet with businesses.
- Participates in ongoing professional development on and off campus in order to promote the college mission and stay current with industry standards and business needs.

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Advanced knowledge and/or industry licensure or credential (i.e. Journeyman License)
- Experience in manufacturing, industrial maintenance, HVAC, electrical technology, building trades, or other related field.
- Pursue NCCER and SACA coursework within 12 months of hire with the goal of obtaining those credentials.
- Dedication to high quality customer service.
- Requires advanced interpersonal skills needed to persuasively interact with a diverse community of student participants, faculty, and staff, and to work with employers, and external stakeholders, including high school faculty and students.
- Ability and willingness to market the program to potential students of all ages and backgrounds.
- Ability and willingness to participate in ongoing professional development in order to stay current with industry standards and business needs.
- Ability to identify, recruit and meet with companies within the service region to develop training programs.
- Commitment to teaching excellence with an enthusiasm for teaching.
- Ability to effectively teach in classrooms and labs and use technology to enhance instruction.
- Requires strong computer skills and aptitude to utilize word processing, spreadsheets, presentation material, college software, and virtual communication tools.
- Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills and time-management skills.
- Relatively high level of analytical ability is needed to find solutions to human, technical, and administrative problems.
- Skilled in developing, implementing, and communicating college policies and procedures, demonstrated familiarity with college academic requirements.
- Skilled in problem-solving and working effectively with administration, faculty, staff and students.
- Skilled in monitoring, mentoring, and evaluating.
- Skilled in reviewing, interpreting, managing a budget, and using data to make decisions.

- Experience teaching or training adult learners in a technical trades industry.
- NCCER and/or SACA certification.
- Experience developing, growing, or expanding training programs or developing curriculum is preferred.
