GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Under the supervision of the Director of Services for Exceptional Children, the Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides comprehensive speech and language services to students with communication disorders, including articulation, language, fluency, and voice impairments. The SLP collaborates with educators, families, and other professionals to support students' academic success and social development, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) guidelines.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Conduct assessments to evaluate students' speech and language abilities.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on assessment results.
Provide direct therapy services to students with speech and language impairments.
Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to support student progress.
Maintain accurate records of evaluations, treatment plans, and progress reports.
Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and contribute to goal setting.
Provide training and resources to school staff and families regarding speech and language development.
Stay current with best practices and continuing education requirements in the field.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Services for Exceptional Children.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of speech-language pathology principles, practices, and procedures.
Ability to assess and treat a variety of speech and language disorders.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in maintaining detailed and accurate records.
Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders.
Valid Virginia license in Speech-Language Pathology issued by the Virginia Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology.
Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred.
Experience in a school setting is preferred.


PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS
Work is typically performed in an school setting. Regular coordination with school administrators is necessary. Daily liaison activity throughout the division is necessary. Contact with media personnel may be required. Attendance of school division activities is necessary. Regular contact is made with teachers, parents, students, and other community members. These contacts may be contentious. Occasional contact with state administrators and representatives of federal agencies is necessary. Travel between school sites will be required.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
10 months (200 days); at least 8 hours per day

EVALUATION
Performance evaluation will be conducted annually by the Director II - Services for Exceptional Children on the effectiveness by which the employee has carried out the above responsibilities.

Salary : $50,715 - $81,063
